About Us
The History of Platform D
Once upon a time, there was a town called Peterborough, nestled on the banks of a meandering river. After several downtown galleries in Peterborough closed, the artists and people of the town had found themselves suddenly without the kind of small, independent exhibition space upon which artists depend. Thus, amidst a turbulent time of dwindling third spaces for the arts, Platform D was born.
Heather Doughty stepped forward and founded Platform D Gallery, generously providing a new space and welcoming environment for artists, grown like a branch from her studio in the Commerce Building.
Platform D provides downtown Peterborough with an intimate environment that welcomes artists and makers alike to share their work, acting as both a gallery and space for artist-led workshops.
Based right in the heart of the arts district, we strive to provide an open and encouraging space for our creative community, and to foster connections with our local artists & artisans.
Together, we continue to work to support them, and in so doing, we all help to keep our beloved Arts District alive, thriving and evolving, through all the years to come.
